The Pianoman.

First life sign documented in Darmstadt on February 4th, 1950.
From 1957 onwards, circa 10 years tuition on the accordion and later on piano.

As a teenager, Martin gets to know and appreciate the great jazz icons of America and Europe through his friend Wolfram Röhrig who acted for him like a musical father and patron.

Wolfram invited him as a boyhood friend of his son, Michael, to numerous concerts in the Liederhalle, Stuttgart and other venues. During these visits he even had the opportunity to meet artists backstage such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and many others.

Martin has forever been infected by these experiences, practicing obsessively the musical styles of jazz, devouring tuition material on harmony and improvising passionately based on snippets he heard on radio or records.

„In the garden basement I was left alone with the piano, playing my Beatles with transitions to the next piece as I had heard it on Chef Röhrig’s broadcast 'From Melody to Melody', when I suddenly heard Mladen Gutesha, better known as Uncle Bobby, asking Michael’s mother on the upper floor: „Who is doing that glorious improvising downstairs?“ Answer: „Oh, that is only our Martin“, to which Uncle Bobby replied „this guy has a real ear for music“.
I had met Uncle Bobby’s approval and so it remained. "

In the 80’s, Martin plays piano in, amongst other venues, the Böblinger Oberhaus and the Stuttgart Dixie Hall together with musicians such as Vince Weber, Zither Manä, Willy Michl, Gottfried Böttger and Helmut "Slick" Salzer who at times invited him on stage with them.

After having completed his Architecture degree in Stuttgart, Martin Krüger followed his profession as a free-range architect for 40 years; for over 50 years Martin has been on stage either alone or with various bands thoroughly absorbed with a passion for the beat and jazz from ragtime through swing to boogie woogie - the rhythm & blues.
